🖥️ Workspace called Skiff

I stumbled across Skiff, an open-source, privacy-friendly substitute for Google Workspace. Skiff offers Gmail, Calendar, Drive, and Docs alternatives. Skiff Pages aspires to be a Doca/Slite clone. The other three tools have the expected features (with no innovations like Hey). I am using it for the next three months to see if it could replace my present email.

📚 The Odd Book of Baby Names

`The Odd Book of Baby Names` by Anees Salim is a beautifully written fiction with non-linear narration and captivating details. The book is told via eight characters, allowing the reader to picture an entire city and characters in his mind, just like the book's cover. In Anees Salim's books, I always feel that there is some Malayalee-specific storytelling hidden from the universal story.

📈 Florence Nightingale & Data Visualisation

“ For instance, Nightingale brilliantly framed army mortality by contrasting it with civilian mortality. She showed how, for example, peacetime soldiers living in army barracks died at higher rates than civilian men of similar ages. Her graphics made it impossible to deny the realities represented by the data: army administration needed dramatic reform.”

📽️ Mahaveeryar

Nivin Pauly's film with Abrid Shine is a bold experiment that deals with law, justice, power, idols, and how it relates to the time. The lack of over-explanation and cliches made it an excellent craft. Most of the actors did a great job, but Lalu Alex - Vijay Menon's performance as men who believes in the law and justice but is anchored to their own time deserves special recognition. I messed up the newsletter by NOT adding hyperlinks to the '&that' part! My bad!
