Issue 0: Welcome and Why

300 words on why I started this and why you should subscribe

നമസ്കാരം! Namaskaram! Hello! Welcome to ‘This & That,’ the bilingual bimonthly newsletter curated by Hiran Venugopalan, a product and type designer from India.

Why am I doing this:

Firstly, I love emails. I always find it personal (almost like snail mail) than any social media, and I love the pace of it - slow. There is no fake urgency created like social media / IMs.

Secondly, I wanted to have a place to share exciting things in the form of a list ( Template would be more of a Delicious + Product Hunt). After seeing what James Clear and Pablo Staley is doing with their newsletter, I felt this might be better than force-fitting them to a blog post.

Why Bilingual :

Malayalam is my native language, and English is what I use for business communication. I consume content in both languages and find exciting things to share, hence sharing in those languages! (Alternative solution is to have two newsletters, but that is too much to start with!)

I can assure you that you won't be missing anything if you don't know Malayalam, as I will be adding a summary in English.

What to expect from T&T :

Every two weeks, I will be sending an email that lists 5-6 micro notes on interesting things, mostly around design, business, politics, technology, productivity, people, arts, and updates about my personal projects.
