You are probably wondering how I got here. Well, you never subscribed to Mixture. You subscribed to This&That.
I started This&That in 2021 because I liked finding things and sharing them. In many ways, it was closer to what Delicious used to be. I found something, added a note, and sent it to you.
That was also a different internet. There are now so many places to find things, and so many systems trying to decide what is worth finding, that a lot of what reaches us starts looking the same. Taste has become a commodity. AI is making that even stranger.
This&That changed along with it. I started with links, then longer notes, then interviews. The interviews were interesting, but they also took a lot of time. At some point, it felt like too much.
So, Mixture is going to be a little more chaotic. I don’t know what comes next, and I don’t really want to decide. There won’t be a schedule or a fixed format. I might send it every two weeks, I might not. I might write a lot, I might send three links. I am going to let the thing figure itself out.
I’m calling it Mixture because it is my kind of snack, it is messy, and it feels like it fits. I also just found out that some people call it Bombay Mix, which feels like exactly the kind of useless fact I would put in here. The next email, arriving in 10 to 14 days, will be the very first issue of Mixture.
